Increased efficiency and optimization: Moving From reactivity to proactivity
The failure of a WWTP equates to a high cost financially, operationally, environmentally and socially. Despite this, many WWTPs have traditionally opted for a reactive approach to managing their operation, often due to the unavailability of proactive methods. By implanting preventive and proactive approaches such as our proposed idea, we offer reduced failures, reduced costs, mitigate risk, increase confidence and optimize operation and expenditure.
The system can measure variables of treatment plant, environmental conditions, and use them to predict the amount of concentration of ammonia ๐๐ป4+ and nitrate ๐๐3โ in effluent few hours ahead. Our system uses these predictions to alert operators about the condition of nutrients in their plant and help them to plan their performance.

Here we use recurrent neural networks as an extension to feedforward networks, in order to allow the processing of variable-length (or even infinite-length) sequences, one of the most popular recurrent architectures in use is long short-term memory (LSTM).
